About the soap
How long does a bar last?
Four to six weeks for one person showering daily, if you let it dry between uses. The 120 g bars are dense from the six-week cure — a supermarket bar of the same size won’t get you close, because it’s mostly still water.
How do I make it last longer?
Keep it out of the stream and let it drain. A slotted dish or a wooden lift is worth more than anything else you can do. A bar sitting in its own puddle will dissolve in about ten days, which is a shame given how long it took to make.
Is it vegan?
Most of it. Every bar soap is vegan except Cloudberry & Cream, which contains goat milk. The Cedar & Tallow lotion bar and the Woodsman’s Hand Salve contain beef tallow and beeswax. The beard balm and solid cologne contain beeswax. Everything else is plant-based, and each product page says which.
Is it tested on animals?
No, and we don’t sell into markets that require it.
What does cold process actually mean?
Soap made without applying heat, cured for six weeks instead of hours. It keeps the glycerin that industrial soapmaking removes and sells separately, and it produces a much harder bar. Longer explanation on How It’s Made.
Is there lye in it?
There’s lye in the making of it, and none in the finished bar. Saponification converts all of it, and every recipe is superfatted 5% so there’s more oil than the lye can react with. No soap has ever been made without lye — anything claiming otherwise is either detergent or was made by someone else with lye.
Skin
I have sensitive skin. Where do I start?
No. 00 Unscented — no fragrance, no colour, olive-heavy. If you want something with a faint scent, Labrador Tea & Oat is colloidal oat with very light fragrance.
Will it help with eczema or psoriasis?
We’re not going to tell you it will. Soap is soap; it cleans and it either irritates or it doesn’t. A lot of people with reactive skin do better with an unscented superfatted bar than with a detergent body wash, and that’s the most we’ll claim. If you’re under a dermatologist’s care, ask them.

Stop using it and email us. We’ll refund it, opened or not, and we’d like to know which product — that’s genuinely useful information to us.
Is the essential oil content safe in pregnancy?
Everything is under 4% and IFRA-compliant for rinse-off. That said, a few essential oils carry pregnancy cautions and we’d rather you asked your midwife or doctor than took our word for it. Full ingredient lists are on every product page.

The candles
How long do they burn?
About 45 hours in an 8 oz tin.
Why does the wick crackle?
It’s wood, not cotton. That’s most of the point.
First burn?
Let it go two to three hours, until the melt pool reaches the edge. Wax has a memory — if the first burn tunnels, it’ll tunnel every time after. Trim the wick to about 3 mm before each burn.
